February Experiment

Thoughts

February 6, 2024

I have a love for Dr Joe Dispenza’s work. I have most of his books; spoiler alert: I haven’t finished them all. I’ve become okay with picking up books and letting them go when I get called to read something else, except with fiction or history books, I do finish before moving on to the next one. Most of the time, I need space to digest and figure out how to integrate a concept before continuing.

Side Note: What I love about picking up books when you feel called to and then putting them down is that when you find your way back to the book, it always tends to be at a spot in the book and at a moment in time, when what you need and what you read syncs up.

I experienced one of these moments with Dr. Joe today.

I love learning, but what is learning without action? When you are making a change in your life, action can seem daunting. A perspective shift that I find helps with this is reframing action to “experimenting.”

If you read my previous blog on words, you know words are more than empty vessels. They carry with them a complex system of emotions and memories. This is why a simple word swap can make all the difference in how you frame your reality. The word “experiment” invites play and fun and marries it with the part of me that likes to analyze.

I love running experiments, and today, I will share with you an experiment I will be starting in February. Dr. Joe reminded me that our beliefs shape our reality. This is, fundamentally, what I work with when using symbolic hypnosis. I had this moment of clarity, like a light shining down on me from the heavens.

We are surrounded by beliefs all the time. I had been working on writing and decided to toss out most of what I had crafted and start over. I was thinking about how writing can be challenging for me. I even had to re-write this part because I started to go into why it was difficult for me, but by going into the why, I am only reinforcing the neuropathways for this belief, why I love symbolic hypnosis over talk therapy.

We often think it’s the big things that create our life, but it is the build-up of all the small things that make our reality.

For the month of February, I am experimenting with approaching what I’m doing with a God’s eye view. The first step is to ask myself, “What is my belief about this?” You are always going to prove your subconscious right. If I fundamentally believe something is difficult then it is going to be difficult. It is the old Henry Ford quote, “Either you can or you can’t, but either way, you are right.”

This is the premise of Dr. Joe’s work. Many of our beliefs are limiting. Add to that, we live in a world full of distractions that steal away our awareness. At some point, we wake up and find ourselves living in a prison of belief we have built for ourselves. Some people never even wake up to this realization.

Coming to the realization that I want to be aware of my beliefs is step one. The second step is to experiment with catching myself in those beliefs and taking steps to create a belief that serves my mission.

This is my plan to help remind me of this goal.

1. I will tape up the question in places where I can be reminded, “What is my belief about what I am about to do?”

2. The other awareness trick I do is an alarm on my phone to go off randomly throughout the day, asking the same question.

I’m excited about this little experiment. I don’t know of anything more transformative than re-wiring beliefs.
